People are now preferring their own vehicle over public transport. Due to this, there is a boom in the sale of vehicles. Passenger vehicle sales increased in January (for the sixth consecutive month), according to data from the auto industry organization SIAM. A total of 2,76,554 passenger vehicles were sold in January. This is an increase of 11.14% annually. A total of 2,48,840 passenger vehicles were sold in the same period last year.
Utility vehicles and van sales are also included in the total sales of passenger vehicles. Utility vehicles sales were up 37.26%. Last month, 1,11,494 UVs were sold, while last year only 81,231 UVs were sold. Van sales were down by -5.95%. Last month, 11,816 vans were sold.
6.63% growth in two-wheeler sales
Last month, two-wheeler vehicle sales rose 6.63%. Last year, a total of 14,29,928 two-wheelers were sold as compared to 13,41,005 two-wheelers sold in the same period last year. Scooter sales rose 9% to 4,54,315 units. In January 2022, 4,16,567 scooters were sold. At the same time, sales of motorcycles have increased by 5.1% to 916,365 units. In January 2020, 8,71,886 motorcycles were sold.
Three-wheeler sales fall drastically
Three-wheeler demand dropped drastically in January. Last month, a total of 25,335 three-wheelers were sold. This is a drop of 56.8%. In January 2020, 60,903 three-wheelers were sold. All categories of vehicles grew by 4.97%. Last year, a total of 17,32,817 vehicles were sold as compared to 16,50,812 vehicles sold in the same period last year.
