Bhubaneswar city of Odisha has become the first city in the country to do 100% vaccination. That is, all the people above the age of 18 years have got both doses of the vaccine. South East Bhubaneshwar Deputy Municipal Commissioner Anshuman Rath told ANI that we continuously conducted vaccination drives. The target of 100% vaccination had already been set.
According to records, there are 9 lakh people above 18 years of age in Bhubaneswar. These include 31 thousand health care workers, 33 thousand front line workers. The age of 5 lakh 17 thousand people is between 18 to 44 years. 3 lakh 25 thousand people are above 45 years of age. Everyone has been vaccinated.
According to Anshuman Rath, 18 lakh 16 thousand vaccine doses have been administered so far in Bhubaneswar. The number of people who have not received a single dose is very less. There are different reasons for this. Like some people come here from nearby districts to work. On giving a dose of vaccine to pregnant women, Rath told that the first dose has been given to them.
10% of the population of Bhubaneswar has been infected
Even after this, the infection does not seem to be curbed in Bhubaneswar. On Sunday, 318 new cases were reported in Bhubaneswar and 317 people were cured. That is, the number of people getting infected here is more than those who are cured. Active cases in Bhubaneswar are close to 2.5 thousand. So far 800 people have died. During the 5 months of the second wave, 65 thousand cases have been reported here.
As of 2011 India census, Bhubaneswar had a population of 8.37 lakhs. According to estimates, it is now close to 10 lakhs. According to the report of TOI, out of this 1 lakh (10%) people have been hit by corona so far.
The number of infected is more than those who are cured
According to experts, the number of daily cases in Odisha is more than those recovering. This is a matter of concern. In Odisha, 74,735 corona tests were conducted on Sunday, out of which 1,437 people were found infected. There were 146 cases in Puri, but only 51 were recovered. 47 positives were found in Bhadrak district and only so many were cured. So far, the number of people who have tested positive for corona in the state is about to reach close to 10 lakh. The test positivity rate (TPR) of the state is 1.92%.
According to Ajay Parida, director of the Institute of Life Sciences, the TPR of 12 districts has been below 1% on Sunday. Puri is the only district where TPR is more than 5%. Cuttack is second with 3.86%. Puri, Khurda (this includes Bhubaneswar) and Cuttack are the three districts where new cases are coming up in triple digits. Taking precaution, lockdown is being imposed in Puri on weekends.
Vaccination status in the country
More than 45 crore vaccine doses were taken
Till July 29, more than 45 crore vaccine doses have been given in the country. More than 7% of the country’s population has been fully vaccinated. At the same time, more than 26% of the population has been given at least one dose of the vaccine. Vaccine companies will have to increase production if 100% of the adult population is to be vaccinated by December.
