Man Kaur, the world’s oldest athlete, will be given a final farewell today. Mann Kaur breathed her last on Saturday at the age of 105. His last rites will be performed at 11 am at the crematorium in Sector 25, Chandigarh. Man Kaur was India’s oldest athlete and popularly known as Miracle of Chandigarh. She was suffering from Gall Bladder Cancer. Since July 8, he was undergoing treatment at Shuddhi Panchkarma Hospital in Derabassi. She had recovered and now started taking fruit diet.

But suddenly his health deteriorated and he died at around 1 pm on Saturday. Man Kaur was born on 1 March 1916 in Patiala. He started running at the age of 93 at the behest of his son Gurdev Singh. He won gold medals by winning many events of his age in many countries including Spain, New Zealand, Auckland, Canada, USA. In 2011, Mann Kaur was adjudged Athlete of the Year. He won a total of 35 national and international medals.

He started running at the age of 93. Seeing his elder son Gurdev running in Patiala, he woke up to this shock. Then he won the first medal in the Chandigarh Masters Athletics Meet in 2010. He became known after winning the 100m race at the World Masters Games in New Zealand. He won the gold medal at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Poland.

Mann holds world records in the 100m and 200m races, javelin throw and shotput in the age group of 95 years and 100 years. Man Kaur won 4 gold medals for the country in the 2017 World Master Games. He won two gold medals in the 2018 Spain World Master Games. He entered India’s name in the record books for the first time by winning two golds in the 100 and 200 meters.
