The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released vehicle registration data in January 2021. The overall vehicle segment witnessed a decline of 9.66% on a year-on-year basis. In January 2021, 15,92,636 vehicles were registered, which was 17,63,011 in January 2020. That means there was a decline in registration of 1,70,375 vehicles. Only the tractor and construction equipment vehicles grew in the category. Earlier, in December 2021, there was 11% growth.
11.14% growth in tractor category
In vehicle registration, tractor sales figures are the best in the category. In the last month, this category grew by 11.14% on a year-on-year basis. There were 54,662 tractors registered in January 2020, which increased to 60,754 in January 2021. That means 6092 tractor registrations were more.
Similarly, 21.88% growth was observed in other categories as well. In January 2021, a total of 3,626 vehicles were registered in this category. Which were 2,975 in January 2020.
Decline in two wheeler and passenger vehicle category
In December, the growth was 11.88% in the two wheeler category and 23.99% in the passenger vehicle category. It was believed that similar growth would be seen in January, but this did not happen. Two Wheeler registration declined by 8.78%. So there was a decline of 4.46% in passenger vehicle registration. Three Wheeler registrations registered a major decline of 51.31%.
Maruti’s market share stood at 49%
In January 2021, Maruti held a market share of 49.24% in the passenger vehicle segment. However, its market share was 2% lower than in January 2020. This was followed by Hyundai with 17% and Tata with 8% market share in second and third place. Ford India had a market share of 1%. She finished last in the top-10 list.
Hero MotoCorp’s market share is 34%
In January 2021, Hero MotoCorp Limited had a market share of 34.05% in the two wheeler segment. However, its market share was 2.6% lower as compared to January 2020. After this Honda stood at second and third position with 25% and TVS 15% market share. Among the top-5 companies, Royal Enfield stood at number four with 4% market share.
